Amazon Accessory Round Up

While I try not to shop anything fast fashion/wasteful fashion, time to time, I allow myself to buy an item or two from Amazon in this category. Typically, they are items I know I will wear and do have some kind of uniqueness or quirkiness to them.

These gradient pink and blue sunglasses are completely dreamy. I love the shape, it’s a nod to the ’70s without feeling completely dated or too kitsch.

I am obsessed with this acrylic eyeglass chain. It comes in a variety of colors and are a great way to avoid losing your sunglasses to the bottom of the lake. Also super convenient if you are bopping in and out of places and your sunglasses won’t stay on your head.

Finally, this is the least essential item, and probably barely functions, but I can’t help but love this rhinestone belt. I really see this balancing out a super casual look of jean shorts. It adds an element of fun to something you don’t expected to see it paired with.

Bougie on a budget

Ok I’ll be honest. I have a ton of student loan debts (like many of my peers) but I also have what my MIL likes to call “champagne taste on a beer budget.”

Personal style is really important to me. I went to a private school where I wore the same thing day in and day out. I feel most like myself when I can dress the way I want, which often comes with a high price tag.

Recently, I’ve begun to accept the fact that I really need to focus on spending better and spending less.

Spending better – only buying things that are 1) quality and will last longer. That cost per wear y’all. 2) make me feel good and no buyer’s remorse. I recently have begun swapping my beauty products for green & clean ones. 3) things that better myself, like my yoga studio.

Spending less – This is pretty self-explanatory but does ladder into spending better. If I buy better quality things and only things I truly love, I’ll buy fewer items. I also love a good coffee out, but that racks up quickly. I’m not going to ditch it all together, but just do it less.

Some things I’m doing to help me be better with money:

Podcast Bad with Money by Gaby Dunn – I recently discovered this from listening to another podcast called Glowing Up. What I appreciate about this Gaby’s refreshing take on “who was going to tell us this?” Meaning, who was supposed to tell us about 401ks or investments. It’s also super interesting from the perspective of the societal structures that keep the rich rich and poor, well, poor.

Investing/Saving – I’m a little ashamed to admit, I only just started a 401k about a year ago. Late is better than never I suppose. I’m also dipping my toe in investing with Ellevest. I don’t put in more than I’m willing to lose, because to be honest, much like Gaby  Dunn investing still mystifies me, but I know the investing gap is REAL.

Using services that help me save – when I do shop online, I’ve started to make sure I use ebates. It’s not a ton of money, but in the past two years, I’ve probably gotten a return of ~$100, which adds up! Also I make sure that I constantly use things like to get rewards. My husband I were recently able to get a hotel room for free on a last minute trip.

Shop used – I’ll admit sometimes this is hard. Because shiny new consumerism! However, things like Luxury Garage Sale and The Real Real is a great way to get something in a good condition at sometimes half the cost.

I’m really focusing on making a huge dent in my debt this year and to have financial freedom. What steps do you take to feeling in control of your finances?

Dainty, Dainty, Dainty

I really want to set the tone of this post and the title is said to the tune of sexy, sexy, sexy from ODB’s Baby I got your money.

Now that’s out of the way we can really focus on the actual point of this post: dainty jewelry. In the past few years I’ve really moved from large statement pieces (although I’m not above them in the right situation) to smaller, minimal jewelry.

Below are some of the pieces I’m currently craving. My go-to shops are Catbird, Etsy and Moulton. Have you gotten any good pieces lately?

Blanket Weather

So (at least in Texas) we’re in weather where it could be warmish during the day, but chilly at night. Which means, having several stylish blankets around is ideal. They’re great for Netflix marathons and for the patio with your gal pals.

I got an amazing blanket when in Costa Rica and it got me searching for some more to keep the house stocked. I’m borderline obsessed with that white blanket from The Citizenry. What do you look for in a blanket?

Etsy Faves

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. I flipping love Etsy. I love finding unique things and its perfect for gifts, home goods, etc.

I could probably write on and on and on about my prolific love, but I’d rather just show you what I’m currently crushing on (despite my wallet’s disapproval).

I’ll admit, finding good stuff can take time and years of building up your favorites so Etsy knows what to reco for you. It’s worth it. I find such unique stuff and sometimes for a WAY better price.

What are your Etsy faves? Any tips on finding great shops?

Let’s talk about flares baby

I know fashion runs on a cycle. I’m fully, fully aware. But it feels like decades since I put on a pair of flare jeans and felt “cool.” I can even pinpoint when I went from a flare and bootcut gal to skinny jeans (it was the tenth grade), it was also a time in our culture when guys were purposely buying girls’ jeans (or in my case stealing mine). At first when I heard flares were on the rise again I thought no way.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite flares out in the universe. Have you gotten a pair recently?

Little Black Bags

I’m all for a good black bag. In fact- I think I’m in the market for a new one. I have bought two beautiful black bags in recent years. One Marc by Marc Jacobs black tote with a zipper top. It was the very first designer bag I ever bought, and it’s really lasted. Which has made me a convert to buying quality bags.

The other I don’t wear as much – it’s the notorious Marc Jacobs Stam. I don’t wear it often, especially as it is discontinued. I do really love it as a bag, the leather is gorgeous, the gold chain is uber cool.

I’ve rounded up a few ideas for a new black bag. Whatcha think?

Dainty Jewelry Love: Moulton

So I’m all about this whole dainty jewelry trend. Jumping on the wagon and I’m not looking back.

Anyways at TxSC I found out about Moulton. The clouds lifted and the the angels started singing. This jewelry is so beautiful and so simple. Also being from Austin is a huge plus in my book!

I’m obsessing over these tiny earrings.

When I’m not dreaming of those bar earrings, the ones above are on my mind.

Etsy: Spring 2015 Edition

I have an Etsy addiction. And to be honest, I have no intention of slowing down any time soon (you can’t judge me).

When you are addicted to Etsy you get really used to forgetting what you ordered because it came from China or Spain or Antarctica or something and arrives a month and half later. It’s like Christmas every damn day.

How rad is this canvas tote? Like for reals. All my farmers market finds can go in it. You know, when I actually go to the farmers market.

I am a working adult woman and this leather lunch sack is perfect to hold my greek yogurt and luna bars (sorry I’m not sorry for how basic that sounds).

Cacti and succulents are the only plants I’ve never killed. So I have a strange affinity for them and want them included in every portion of my life. This cacti necklace is everything I could dream for and is perfect to wear to in Marfa.

Let’s talk for five seconds about basics. Not basics, but basic clothing you can wear with everything.

I STRUGGLE with finding quality t-shirts that look good on my body that don’t cost $100. Sorry, I work in marketing, I’m not exactly raking in the dough.

I was skeptical at first. I mean. Look how cool that girl looks? Like maybe I’m not seeing the shirt but her I-attend-ultra-hip-indie-bands-on-the-weekends vibe.

After I ordered my first, I ordered 3 more. (I swear I’m not addicted….)

This tee is so like I brunch with Alexa Chung. Sing it: I believe I can brunch.

And she’s still like I can rock a middle part and a side part. I want to know what sea salt spray she uses. Or maybe she wakes up that cool? I don’t FREAKING know okay. Jeez.

And because I can’t quench my thirst for Neko Case – here’s some New Pornographers.
